It all started long before me

As far back as I can remember, beauty has always been a part of my daily life. Not the beauty of magazines or storefronts—but that of more intimate and truer gestures, passed down in silence.

My grandmother had this rare gift of turning any scrap of fabric into something extraordinary. Every year, for Carnival, she would make my costume by hand — with a patience and care that I did not yet fully appreciate. It was she who taught me crochet, that repetitive and meditative gesture that teaches the hand precision and the mind patience.

My mother, for her part, had another way of passing on her passion to me. I would watch her put on her makeup—that daily ritual of a woman taking care of herself, transforming, asserting herself. There was something profoundly elegant in that gesture that I have never forgotten.

Alongside these childhood memories, I developed a very early fascination with the stories of great French houses. Not so much for their glamour or prestige — but for what they embody: the absolute conviction that a well-made object deserves to exist, and that it can endure across generations.

The story of Christian Dior touches me particularly. This man who was not destined for fashion—who had studied something entirely different—and whom destiny put on an entirely different path. As if certain callings do not ask for permission. As if they impose themselves, sooner or later.

I see a bit of myself in that trajectory. Fashion was not part of my plan. But it was there, lurking in my childhood memories, in my grandmother's gestures, in my mother's bags. It was simply waiting for the right moment to express itself.

Vanessa K was born from this conviction: that it is possible to create high-end artisanal pieces in France, while respecting the main guidelines of the houses that inspired me — the demanding selection of materials, the precision of movement, the attention paid to every detail — without sacrificing accessibility or soul.
